Following the soft opening of its first level last February 26, SM Hypermarket Lapu-Lapu yesterday opened the second level with over 30 spaces for retail stores and restaurants. SM Hypermarket LapuLapu, which is located in Pueblo Verde, Mactan Economic Zone 2, is the third branch in Cebu and the first in Mactan island.

“This is our third branch, we really feel that Lapu-Lapu City is already bustling and we really feel the need to be here," Steven Tan, Vice President of SM Supermalls told reporters.

SM Hypermarket has branches in J Centre Mall and in Subangdako, Mandaue City. The Pueblo Verde complex in Barangay Basak covers 7,000 square meters, of which 3,000 square meters make up the SM Hypermarket.

SM Prime Holdings Inc., vice president Marissa Fernan said the Lapu-Lapu branch will serve the city’s growing community making it convenient for MEZ workers, Mactan residents as well as travelers flying in and out of Cebu through the Mactan Cebu International Airport, as the store opens at six in the morning.

Aside from new food outlets added at the first level, SM Hypermarket’s second level is composed of retail shops selling various gadgets, cellphones and accessories.

The branch also offers a wide array of services with the incorporation of foreign exchange, bills payment and Western Union money transfer for transaction services.

The opening ceremony was graced by SM executives, LapuLapu City Mayor Paz Radaza, and actor Tom Rodriguez. — Christell Fatima M. Tudtud with Shaira Marie Villanueva (CNU Communication Intern)
