Task group eyed to probe barangay captain’s death
A special investigating task group may be created to look into the shooting to death of a Lapu-Lapu City barangay captain in Clarin, Bohol last week.
Senior Supt. Rey Lyndon Lawas, chief of the Regional Investigation and Detection Management Division, said the decision will be made after a joint case conference at 10 a.m. today.
“Dili na siya ingon nga automatic gyud dayon. Depende man na siya if there’s a need for us to involve other units in finding solution to the problem,” said Lawas.
Police investigators from Clarin Police Station will give an update of its investigation into the killing of Agus Barangay Captain Jovencio Lauron. The conference will be attended by the members of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, Criminal Investigation and detection Group-7, and Regional Intelligence Division.
Pending the creation of a formal task force, however, the RID, CIDG-7 and Lapu-Lapu City Police Office were already directed to help in the data gathering that would possibly help in the solution of the case.
Lauron was on his way to attend a fiesta in Bohol together with his family and some fellow barangay officials when he was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Clarin town.
Following the incident, Chief Superintendent Prudencio Bañas, Police Regional Office-7 director, reminded government officials to be more vigilant at all times.
“Una sa lahat, ingat sila. And dun sa mga areas na pupuntahan nila, dapat may mga advanced party sila o mga kasamahan sila na medyo nagmamanman sa kanilang sitwasyon especially sa mga hotly-contested na mga barangay,” said Bañas.
