CV collects 5 golds in Day 3

TAGUM CITY — Central Visayas had a productive day as its athletes harvested five golds in the third day of action of the 2015 Palarong Pambansa at the Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex here.

CV’s elementary badminton team won its first two golds of the day, while Raven Faith Alcoseba handed a gold medal in the elementary girls swimming as archer Nicole Marie Tagle targeted his way for another gold.

The final gold for Central Visayas came from gymnasts Dianne Navarro via the secondary girls balance beam event at the Panabo gym.

Banilad Elementary School boys badminton squad of coach Eddie Estoconeng defeated Calabarzon, 2-1, for the title. Lyrden Laborte won straight sets against Kish Miguel Laboy, but the duo of Allen Penute and Keff Guancho failed to give CV its second straight win.

James Navarette, however, made sure that they will retain the crown after beating CALABARZON’s top bet in deciding singles, 19-21, 22-20, 21-19.

In the distaff side, Chelsea Katrina Akiatan, Zinah Marichelle Bejsa, Karylle Rio and Eclaire Satera snared the gold medal in the girls badminton team event also against CALABARZON, 2-1.

In the pool, Talisay City’s Alcoseba was the fastest in the elementary girls’ 100m backstroke with her personal best in 1:10.03.

"It was only in 2012 that I decided to give competitio­n a try. I didn't qualified for the final round of the 100m back last year, that's why I feel so happy to win the gold this time," said Alcoseba, one of the products of Talisay City's free learn to swim program under coach Andoy Remolino.

Tagle also saved the day for CV in archery, as she grabbed the lone gold via the 30m mark. She posted 330 points for the gold medal.

Ceevees also bagged a bronze medal in secondary badminton, while the table tennis bets got silver and a bronze.

In Gaisano-Tagum, Anne Sharmaine Albaracin also handed CV a silver medal in the poomsae event of taekwondo.

Desirey Padilla also got a silver medal in the vault event of gymnastics, while Navarro added a bronze. Francin Coyoca also finished with silver in the floor exercise.
