Regine Velasquez relishes motherhood

-

Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez was launched Monday afternoon as the endorser of PLDT HOME’s Mother’s Day Campaign that introduces to the public its new landline Telsets called the Regine Series.

At the event held at Annabel’s Restaurant in Tomas Morato, Quezon City, PLDT Marketing Head Gary Dujali said that this is the first time PLDT is having Regine as an endorser although they have worked with her in several projects in the past, including the performer singing the theme song of PLDT’s Gabay Guro campaign pro bono. She also attended the Gabay Guro event held at the MOA Arena two years ago where she performed before an audience of teachers from all over the Philippines.

Dujali said that they couldn’t have made a better choice in Regine as endorser of this new campaign. She is the voice for PLDT Home and once the campaign is on, PLDT subscribers will receive a call from Regine, telling them about the Regine Series and how they can avail of it. The campaign is geared for mothers and that makes Regine perfect because she is a caring mom to her three-year-old son Nate. He added that Regine is the face of the modern Filipina woman.

Regine is happy with her connection to the PLDT HOME Team. “They have been very supportive of everything I do. They allow me to stay connected to my own home and for a working mother like me, you know that keeping in close contact with our family is everything. Especially that I have a growing little boy who never fails to surprise me with his discoveries every single day,” she enthused.

When she got pregnant, her sisters told Regine that her life will become different once she becomes a mother. “I had no idea what they were talking about until I had Nate. Everything about my life changed completely. I have a totally different perspective now, a different outlook in life,” said Regine.

She said being a mom is such a wonderful experience for her. “Every day is a learning experience for me. Although I have sisters and a brother who has kids, iba talaga ang pakiramdam if you are taking care of your own child. Iba ang pakiramdam nang pagiging isang nanay. At the same, nagkakaroon na rin ng personality si Nate even at

the age of three kaya mas focused ako lalo sa pag-

aalaga sa kanya.”

When she was younger and still single, Regine said her focus was her career. Now, she wants to give more time for family. “This is the best time to be with Nate because he is growing up fast. I am happy that I am given a chance to work but I also have ample time to spend with him,” said Regine.

The wife of Ogie Alcasid was supposed to be in a TV series but she declined because she already accepted commitments prior to the offer. She also denied that she didn’t want to work with Ariel Rivera whom she last worked with in a TV special. It is her choice to do only one show a week since she wants to spend more time with Nate.

Asked if she is really using the new PLDT landline phones that she is endorsing, Regine said: “To be honest, not at the moment because our house is still being renovated for about a year now. But I really want a landline instead of a cellphone because it is better to talk to a person in a landline. Sa cellphone kasi, pag di natanggap ang text mo o ang tawag mo, hindi mo rin makakausap. Eh pag

landline, pag nag-ring eh tiyak na sasagutin. We hope to move to our new home by July and I hope that we can have a landline installed. I also want to avail of PLDT Fam Cam so that we can have a camera in the house.”

With the Mother’s Day special offer, subscribers can get new Telsets for as low as P75 a month complete with caller ID or answering machine, free NDD calls nationwide plus P10 per call to SMART/Talk n Text and add only P50 a month for free 15-minute calls per month to the USA, Canada, China, Hongkong, Singapore and Guam. The Telsets are available in four handsome designs that best fit your home. Apply now at PLDT Sales and Service Center nationwide or visit pldthome.com.

We really enjoy watching “Your Face Sounds Familiar” (YFSF) every Saturday and Sunday on ABS-CBN. It has become part of our viewing habit. We find the show very entertaining and since it is rating well, we hope there will be a second season.

But while we find the show entertaining, we must admit that we don’t always agree with the scores given by the jury to the celebrity contestants, same with the scores given by the celebrity contestants to their fellow competitors.

It’s been eight weeks since the show premiered, but we are still confused how the jury composed of Jed Madela, Sharon Cuneta and Gary Valenciano give their scores to each contestant. It seems that the comments they give a contestant after a performance does not in any way reflect the scores that they give them at the end of the show. What is really the criteria they use for judging – ka-sound ba? Kamukha ba? Is it because they were entertained? If the performance gets a wild attention from the audience, does that affect the scoring of the jury?

While we enjoy YFSF every week, we can’t say that we are entertained by the performance of every contestant. We may like one or two, or three which we are inclined to give high scores while the rest will get low marks from us. That’s why if we are a juror, for sure we will have a different winner from the one chosen by Jed, Sharon and Gary V.

Another thing that doesn’t sit well with us is the way the celebrity contestants give their three points to their fellow competitors. As far as we are concerned, if a performance is not up to par, a contestant should not be given the three points, objectively speaking. But what seems to happen is that the contestants themselves are somehow strategizing in giving their three points. They do not seem to be thinking before they give their three points, even if they know giving that those points could be crucial in determining who will win for that week.

We have noticed this several times that if a contestant seems in danger of not getting an additional three points, all of a sudden, one of them will give him or her three points. Kasi parang ang dating is kawawa naman

kasi mababa ang score so I will give my three points, even if said contestant did not perform well.

It could also be a strategy on their part not to give an additional three points to a contestant who performed well because he or she is a threat. So even if a contestant has a chance to win that week, his or her score is pulled down because the other contestants will choose to give the three points to another competitor who did not shine at all, in the process, preventing from true possible winner, as chosen by the jury, to win. We learned that the contestants cast their votes for the three points by secret balloting before the jury gives their verdict. Just the same, we feel that these contestants should vote objectively. After all, they have seen all the performances.

Only the top four after the eliminations will advance to the grand finals. We hope that the really good ones will make it to the Top 4. No sympathy votes please.
