Korean national charged for beating househelp

-

A Korean national was charged in court for allegedly beating a house helper in April last year.

Assistant city prosecutor Rodulph Val Carillo has found probable cause to indict Park My Esook for violation of Section 5 of Republic Act 10361 otherwise known as the Kasambahay Law.

The prosecutor’s office has recommended P12,000 bail for Park’s temporary liberty.

Lorna Enopia, a resident of Dalaguete town, said that she was employed as house helper of Juhee Kim in Barangay Kasambagan Cebu City from April 9, 2014. Enopia said she was given P4,000 as monthly salary.

On April 16, 2014, the accused who is the mother of Enopia’s employer arrived from Korea.

Enopia said that on April 18, 2014 in the morning while she and her co-worker Rowela Bapor were having breakfast, Park reportedly came to the kitchen and shouted at her.

She was allegedly dragged out of the kitchen for unknown reason.

“Without apparent reason she then held my left arm tightly and pulled me out from the kitchen. She then started beating the different parts of my body by her hands, not satisfied of what she was doing, she twisted my arm which resulted to an injury on my left forearm,” Enopia’s sworn statement read.

Enopia said that because of the incident she left her employer and temporarily stayed at the house of Vice Governor Agnes Magpale in Barangay Kasambagan, where her mother also works as househelp.

Enopia was assisted by Magpale, chairperson of the Cebu Provincial Women’s Commission, in filing the complaint before the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office.

A subpoena was sent to Park to answer the complaint but she failed to submit her counter-affidavit.

Park’s case is the first to be filed before the city prosecutor’s office involving violation of Kasambahay Law.
