Floyd blames Pacquiao for boring fight

-

Floyd Mayweather Jr. responded to disgruntled fans who found his megabuck showdown with Manny Pacquiao to be a lackluster one, saying they should put the blame on the Filipino.

In a recent interview with SiriusXM’s Shade 45 Radio, the undefeated American reiterated that he put to good use his superb boxing skills to outpoint Pacquiao last May 3 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Mayweather didn’t need to be exciting in doing it, as long as he gets the win.

“Everyone wants to say that the fight didn’t live up to expectations. I did what I always do,” he said.

“I’m a smart, defensive wizard. I take my time, I pick my shots. And the thing is this: I’ve been around this sport a very long time, I know what I’m doing when I’m inside that squared circle. Everyone put this guy (Pacquiao) on a pedestal,” added Mayweather, who won on all three judges’ scorecards to win boxing’s richest fight ever.

Mayweather curiously outpunched Pacquiao, connecting on 148 of 435 blows for a 34 percent connect rate. Pacquiao, in contrast, landed only 81 blows of the 429 he threw (18 percent), something Mayweather claimed was the result of his defensive prowess.

“It’s not my fault that I was able to alleviate anything that he [Pacquiao] was able to do. Whatever you best attribute is, I take it away from you — disarm you,” he explained.

It was later revealed that Pacquiao fought on despite having a torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder, which he sustained in sparring a few weeks before the fight. But Mayweather brushed off his foe’s injury.
