Carillo to abolish nat’l legislature
IF VOTED AS CEBU SOUTH REP
Cebu City Councilor Gerardo Carillo will call for the abolition of both Senate and House of Representatives if elected congressman next year.
He said he would then push for a federal form of government and the regional representatives will be the one to elect the prime minister.
“This will strengthen our region. This country will go forward and to be one of the best in the Asia-Pacific region,” he said.
Carillo made his announcement during the induction of the new set of officers of the Sugboanong Komentaristang Nagpakabana (SUKNA) last Friday evening led by former congressman Pastor “Jun” Alcover of the Alliance for Nationalism and Democracy.
Carillo administered the oath of the newlyelected SUKNA officers in lieu of Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, who is in Hong Kong.
While Carillo already declared running for congressman of the south district of Cebu City, Alcover is also rumored to run for the same post in the north district against the incumbents. They would be challenging incumbent Representatives Rodrigo Abellanosa and Raul del Mar, respectively.
While he did not categorically express support for the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law, he asked why the same call for autonomy should not be implemented nationwide.
“Why not implement it in the entire country so that this city (Cebu) will become what it should be?” he said.
Taking his cue from the event’s theme “The Challenges of Media in Times of Crisis,” Carillo said the crisis the country is facing now is that on national leadership.
He said under the federal system, the prime minister could easily be replaced by the unicameral congress if he does not perform well.
He added that it is not the position he is after but the welfare of the people in seeking for election as Cebu City south district representative in the 2016 elections.
