A 44-year-old man was found dead shortly after he allegedly went on a hacking spree injuring four people in Barangay Carnaza, an island barangay of Daanbantayan town northern Cebu, past 8 a.m. Saturday.

Leomides Gastador Rabadon, 44, allegedly attempted to hack six people but only got to four of them.

Cesar Abergas, 66; Bonifacio Bohol, 71; Patroce- nio Edem, 52, and Renato Pasana, 49, were immediately brought to the Daanbantayan District Hospital.

PO1 Roberto Dapat Jr., desk officer of Daanbantayan Police Station said that past 8 a.m., they received a report of a man who hacked anyone he met along the way.

SPO2 Mamerto Gastador, SPO1 Favio Daplina and PO3 Ressan Moralde immediately went to the island barangay to verify the report.

When they arrived in Barangay Carnaza, they saw Rabadon on the ground with gunshot wounds in his both legs, buttocks, left arm and other parts of the body.

Dapat said Rabadon reportedly was on his way to the house of one of his victims, Bonifacio Bohol, early morning on Saturday and was brandishing a bolo.

At that time Abergas and his stepdaughter was also heading towards Bohol’s house.

When Rabadon saw the two, he went straight to Abergas and struck him with the bolo several times. Fortunately, Abergas’ stepdaughter managed to run away.

Bohol saw the commotion and rushed to help Abergas but he was also struck by Rabadon several times.

Pasana, who was nearby, also tried to help the victims but he, too, suffered several hack wounds. Pasana though managed to run away from Rabadon.

Drajay Bauno, barangay tanod chief of the area, learned of the incident and immediately responded to the alarm.

He saw Rabadon and told the suspect to peacefully surrender. However, Rabadon attacked Bauno but the latter managed to escape and run away.

Police said nobody saw what happened to the suspect after the hacking spree and was only found dead later on.

No slugs or empty shells were recovered from the area which led the police to think that the bystanders were responsible in shooting Rabadon.

Further, police are still investigating what may have caused Rabadon to go out of control.
