Eric Waldburger, President of Marco Polo Hotels, has announced his retirement by January 31 next year. Waldburger has led the company for the past three years through one of its most active periods in over a decade with the openings in the past year of Marco Polo Ortigas Manila, Marco Polo Changzhou and the launch of the new luxury brand, Niccolo by Marco Polo, in Chengdu, China.
At the same time he prepared the three Hong Kong properties for the challenging years ahead, spearheading the amalgamation of operations at the three properties. As one of Asia's most experienced hoteliers and with a knowledge base that extends over 40 years, Waldburger believes that the timing is ideal for a seamless transition to a new chapter for Marco Polo Hotels.
In announcing his retirement Waldburger also announced his successor, an internal appointment, Ms. Jennifer Cronin who is currently Vice President for Sales & Marketing of the hotel group.
Waldburger said that Jennifer has clearly demonstrated her commitment, leadership and professionalism since joining Marco Polo Hotels in May 2014.
An Australian, Cronin has an extensive career and successful track record throughout Asia and Australia in senior marketing and operational roles, including Hyatt International, Ritz Carlton and Dusit International. She commences as President-Designate on August 1 this year, and then assumes as President upon Mr. Waldburger's retirement on 1 February 2016.
