Convergys distributes 1,000 ‘bags of hope’ to Cebu studes

-

The country’s largest private employer, Convergys, recently distributed 1,000 “Bags of Hope” to students in Barrio Luz Elementary School, during a visit on August 3.

The public school, which is located nearby Convergys centers in Asiatown IT Park, was chosen to be the partner of three Convergys Cebu site i2, i3 and Cebu 5-The Link.

The “Give a Bag of Hope” campaign, launched by Convergys Philippines in all of its sites in May 2015, is a nationwide employee-driven program, which seeks to address a basic challenge faced by public elementary school students—the lack of school supplies. The bags of hope allow them to better participate in school, and give them a fighting chance at their education.

Employees can donate through several ways: aside from a monetary pledge and actual donation of school supplies, each successful referral also results to a bag of hope donated in the employee’s as well as new hire’s name.

“Our elementary pupils had the special opportunity to be beneficiaries of Convergys’ Give a Bag of Hope campaign. This activity shows that there continues to be an outpour of goodwill and bountiful blessings to schoolchildren, through the generosity of Convergys employees,” says Helen Estoconing, Barrio Luz Elementary School Principal.

Convergys Cebu 5 Site Director Jennifer Chua shares, “More than a thousand employees from three Cebu sites donated to make this activity possible. We also appreciate the hundred volunteers who joined today’s distribution. As the public school is at the heart of the community where our employees and their kin live and work, they can clearly see the impact of their good work.”

“Convergys has eight Cebu teams located in seven centers in the province, and our colleagues in sister sites have also partnered with other public schools. As we consider the collective effort beyond our three teams, we all accomplish one goal: to make a difference by helping improve the quality of life right here in our local communities,” says Cebu i2 Site Director Dagny Estacio.

“We thank our people in demonstrating the company’s corporate value of ‘serve the community.’ No matter how big or small the individual contributions are, they all add up and show that as an organization, we truly care. This accomplishment is special and for which we are all proud,” ends Vijay Ravindran, Site Director for Convergys Cebu i3.

The company aims to provide more than 20,000 Bags of Hope to students across the Philippines, as visits to partner schools of various Convergys sites continue throughout July and August.
