Fusion into finals; Acreex stays alive in Davies Cup

-

Team Fusion advanced into the championship round without any glitch after it terminated Polyfloor, 75-65, in the Architects+Engineers Basketball Association's 1st Davies Paints Cup last Sunday at the Cebu Eastern College gym.

Fusion, however, has to wait for its finals opponent as Acreex lived and fight for another day after it outlasted the twice-to-beat Stay Clean, 88-83. Acreex and Stay Clean will again clash on Sunday for the right to face Fusion in the best-of-three finals.

Ed Bonphyl Macasling sparkled with 35 points spiked with a perfect 10-of-10 shooting from the foul line for the Fusion squad, which raced to a nine-point lead at halftime, 36-25.

Polyfloor countered with a 25-16 spurt in the third period, but Fusion closed the match with a 23-15 to secure a 10-point victory and an outright berth into the gold-medal match.

Macasling drew huge support from Klever with 19 points and nine rebounds and Alfred Gene Calumba with 11 points laced with nine caroms.

In the other game, Acreex banked on a balanced offensive attack to spoil a 44-point explosion by Michael Cinco and bring down Stay Clean. After toning down from a good 28-17 start, Acreex shot back to life using a 32-25 endgame run to stun Stay Clean and keep its title hopes alive.

Four Acreex players netted twin figures led by Richard Badayos with 17 points. Erik Valleser contributed 16 markers, while Jun Villacorta and Parcon scored 15 and 14, respectively.—
