Maine in Twitter top 5 with Taylor Swift, Katy Perry
As a result of her phenomenal split screen love team with matinee idol Alden Richards, Dubsmash sensation Maine Mendoza a.k.a Yaya Dub is currently among the Top 5 fastest growing celebrities on Twitter.
This is according to Socialbakers.com, a New York-based company focused on social media marketing. For the period covering September 14 to October 12, Maine is ranked number four among fastest growing celebrities just behind singers Taylor Swift and Katy Perry, TV host and comedian Ellen DeGeneres and ahead of late night talk show host Jimmy Fallon.
Maine actually was ranked as high as number three in previous days but Socialbakers’ monthly statistics of Twitter followers change daily with the removal of the oldest day and the addition of the newest day in the reckoning period. She gained 1,047,386 followers in the past month.
A look at Maine’s profile in the site revealed a graph that showed the progress of her following in the popular social media site as far back as the last six months. The graph revealed that Maine had “only” 500,000 followers last August 18 — six years since opening her own account. That was around the same time that the #AlDub phenomenon erupted.
By September 15, Maine cracked the one million mark and by October 10, she already had over two million followers. Her current followers currently stand at 2.05 million.
In another similar site, TwitterCounter.com, Maine is currently ranked at No. 437 in the worldwide rankings of most popular Twitter users which is not just limited to celebrities and individuals. By comparison, No. 190 Anne Curtis with nearly 8.2 million followers is the only Filipino in the Top 200.
At the current growth rate of her statistics, TwitterCounter predicts that Maine will have over 4.6 million followers within the next three months and a total of 12.6 million in one year.
But that’s assuming that #AlDub, which has a number one trending hashtag every single day, will maintain the degree of popularity that it currently enjoys. It is also a big reason why Maine averages over 29,000 new followers every day.
In the local level, Alden, who now has 2.13 million followers, is also listed as the fastest growing celebrity Twitter profile in the Philippines. The 23-year-old actor, who also joined Twitter in 2009, was already one of GMA Network’s established stars even before #AlDub was formed.
Alden’s Socialbakers’profile revealed a dramatic increase in his following since last July when the “Kalyeserye” segment of “Eat Bulaga” that led to his love team with Yaya Dub started.
