"Windows 10" launches in Cebu
Representatives of Microsoft Philippines were in town last week for the Cebu launch of "Windows 10," the company's newest operating system (OS) for computers.
Held at Radisson Blu Cebu on Thursday, November 5, the day-long launch brought industry partners, IT professionals, software engineers, web developers, students and members of the media together for a preview of the new OS. "Lumia" smartphones running on "Windows 10 Mobile" - the variant of "Windows 10" for smartphones and tablets - was also introduced.
"Windows 10" features a new "Action Center," support for multiple desktops, and provisions for advanced security protocols based on an advanced facial recognition technology, among others. Since its official release months before, the OS has received generally positive reviews among users in different parts of the world.
The new Windows OS is available as a free upgrade for eligible "Windows 7" and "Windows 8.1" devices. More information on "Windows 10" is at www.microsoft.com.
Wallet that functions as a power bank
There's a wallet that also functions as a power bank. The billfold - called Nomad Wallet - measures 95mm (height) by 125mm (width) and 25mm (thickness). The wallet/iPhone power bank is fitted with a 2,400mAh battery and compatible with devices that tout Apple's Lightning connector standard. It is currently on its pre-order stage overseas; orders are expected to be shipped by November 15.
Though it is still unclear if or when the item is to be made available in the Philippines, it has sure sparked some interest among Cebuanos who are looking for novel gifts to give to friends and loved ones this holiday season.
"Tanim Bala - The Mobile Game"
A new mobile game title published by Kulit Games managed to get the attention of Pinoy netizens and social Microsoft Philippines Windows Business Group Lead Mae Moreno during a Cebu launch of "Windows 10" mediaholics over the weekend. Released on Thursday last week, the game - titled "Tanim Bala - The Mobile Game" - is apparently based on the supposed "tanim-bala" extortion scandal at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
The title's Google Play page describes the game's mechanics as: "These greedy Administrators want to plant a bullet in your bag and if they succeed, you'll end up paying $1000. Of course you would not let them do that! Now, you'd have to move the cursor from left to right as fast as you can to avoid the bullets that fall to your luggage."
Compatible with Android handsets running on Android 2.3 or higher, the 15MB game has garnered a 4.7 (out of 5) star rating from 414 reviewers as of Friday last week. Different social media posts and blogs about the game, though, are divided on it, rating it as either "witty" or "tasteless."
