Happy Easter!
Following days of mourning over the sufferings and death of Christ at the hands of the Roman soldiers, the Christendom is celebrating His resurrection today, marking the event as one of the most important in the Christian tradition.
Christ's resurrection is truly a testament to His triumph over evil. By rising from the dead, He demonstrated His promise to His disciples and to the faithful that life after death comes to those who believe in God.
However, as millions across the globe celebrate his resurrection, many have forgotten the essence of the event, only treating it as the time to resume the normal course of the daily life interrupted by a few days of fasting.
Today, thousands in this country will find themselves spending time at beaches and other resorts to beat the summer heat. This has been an Easter tradition for Filipinos ever since we started embracing the Christian faith centuries ago.
But instead of centering the occasion on the significance of Christ's resurrection,
TODAY’S EDITOR: it's unfortunate that, for many, such celebrations would now simply revolve around the need to take a break from the rigors of the daily life. Others would even go as far as putting premium importance on the commercial aspect of event.
As we are preoccupied with the ' earthly' activities in our Easter celebrations today, it seems we have already lost the significance of the need to delve into the true meaning of the resurrection of Christ.
Of course, He rose from the dead to support His assurance of an eternal life for those who repent. But just because He died on the cross does not have to mean He wanted his believers to experience the same trial He had gone through to have salvation.
Christ had to suffer and die in order to save us from sin. Through his death, we are being cleansed of our evil ways as long as we submit ourselves to God and accept Him as our only Savior. He is giving us a chance.
