Smart rolls out worry-free data roaming service

Subscribers of Smart can now enjoy an easier, convenient and shock-free data roaming experience as the telco rolls out Surf Abroad 550 to millions of its Smart Prepaid subscribers.

Now bigger and better, Surf Abroad 550 offers mobile Internet connectivity in 130 countries – the widest data roaming network available to Filipino travelers. Moreover, Surf Abroad 550 is a lot more convenient to use with its network lock feature, which means subscribers no longer have to go through the pains of remembering and keying in the specified roaming partners at their destination from time to time just to connect to their favorite apps.

"We are thrilled to further expand the country’s widest data roaming network and finally make it available to Smart Prepaid subscribers, who can now enjoy all their favorite apps to enrich their overseas travel experiences,” said Tina Mariano, Global Access and International Services head at Smart.

“With Surf Abroad 550, Smart Prepaid subscribers can have constant access to news, maps and weather information about their destination, instantly share their travel experiences to their social circles through their favorite apps like Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook, and connect to their family and colleagues as the need arises. Such flexibility and convenience are priceless when you travel abroad,” Mariano added.

Surf Abroad 550 lets users enjoy a whole day of online activities – from 12:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. – for only P550 per day.

To use Surf Abroad 550 on their Smart Prepaid SIM, subscribers simply text ROAM ON to 333 before leaving the country. Upon arriving at their destination, they have to turn on their mobile data and dial *133# to access the menu. Then they should choose Data Roaming and their preferred load denomination. Once the service is active, they will also get timely notifications so they are completely in control of their subscription.
