Eight hundred candle lights illuminated Radisson Blu Cebu’s hotel lobby in observance of Earth Hour, the worldwide movement against climate change.

This year, the hotel’s Earth Hour observance saved a total of 83.10 kWh in an hour of switching off the necessary lighting and airconditioning.

Lighting in the key areas of the hotel were switched off for an hour as a mark of respect and a show of solidarity against climate change as guests also took part in the event witnessing various performances dedicated to Mother Nature. Recycled materials were used as decors for the event, from used candles and water bottles collected from the guestrooms to colorful paper lanterns hand painted by Kids at the Blu members adorning the lobby.

The event was opened by Radisson Blu Cebu’s Hotel Manager Fabien Martinez then kicked-off with a candle parade of the employees. The Lapu- Lapu Ukelele Group, a talented ensemble of public elementary school students serenaded the guests with acoustic renditions of Pandanggo sa Ilaw, Heal the World, Masdan ang Kapaligiran, Paraiso, Let it Be and the Final Countdown which was then followed by a song “Colors of the Wind” from Radisson Blu Cebu’s staff Denise Guevarra. The celebration was continued by the Renaissance band providing entertainment for the guests until lights on.

The hotel is proactive in integrating green practices in its business operations by championing Responsible Business projects such as volunteering in the National Greening Program of the Department of Environmental and Natural Resources’ mangrove planting activities in Cordova and in the industrial cities of Naga and Danao City.
