The Great Matriarch of the Deiparine- Bacaltos Clan of Talisay City, Cebu

-

Great families are often nurtured by great mothers, one of which was Remedios Deiparine fondly called by many as "Inday Meding." She is the mother of Talisay City's public servants, wife of a great man and teacher to thousands of Talisaynons.

Inday Meding was the granddaughter of Olimpio "Capitan Polong" Deiparine ( the grateful Talisaynons honors him with a street crossing the SRP road, formerly called as Uldog), he married Tomasa Laspinas. The couple produced the following children: Prisco, Consolacion, Petrona, Dr. Anastacio and Soledad.

The eldest child, Prisco (donor of the land of the Tabunoc Elementary School) became Vice President of Talisay during the term of Mayor Vicente Garces.

Vice President Prisco (today's equivalent of Vice Mayor) married twice, first with Colomba C. Abellana, they had four children: Emeliana, Carmelo, Alfredo, and Narcisa. The second wife was Melecia Abellana, and they had eight children: Emiliana who married Dulong Rabaya, Carmelo who married Leana Reyes, Alfredo who married Mamerta Cabusas, Narcisa who married Panfilo Lastimosa, Ramona who married David Gonzaga, Francisco who married Bonifacia Generali, Olimpia, and Remedios "Inday Meding," who married Antonio Bacaltos Jr.

Inday Meding taught at the Tabunoc Elementary School and in Talisay Central School (Poblacion, Talisay City), her husband Antonio "Ondo Bando" Bacaltos Sr. (son of Martiniano Bacaltos and Aniceta Tabiolo), who became a lawyer on April 14, 1953 faithfully served the people of Talisay for decades, first as Vice Mayor, then as a distinguished Delegate of the 1971 Constitutional Convention (representing the old 3rdCongressional District of Cebu) and holds the title as the First Representative of the First Congressional District of Cebu (after Congress was convened and democracy restored in 1986).

The greatness of Inday Meding husband is now remembered by a street named after him, by virtue of City Ordinance No. 2012-01, it is the road from the main street of Barangays Lawaan I, Lawaan II, Mohon, and Pooc to the shoreline in the southeastern party of Talisay City, Cebu.

Congressman Bacaltos before becoming a lawyer served his country as a guerilla intelligence officer, though before the World War II he enlisted in the Philippine Army as Master Sergeant. When Philippines was liberated in 1945, two years after, he married the love of his life, Inday Meding on March 1, 1947. The wedding ceremony took place at the historical church of Santa Teresa de Avila in Poblacion, Talisay, Cebu.

The great lawyer and the great teacher produced great men and women. Alex, Dehlia (an alumnus of the Colegio de San Jose Recoletos now the University of San Jose Recoletos, awarded as Outstanding Golden Alumnos in 2015, she was appointed as OIC Mayor of Talisay in 1986, and holds the title as the 1st Elected Mayor of Talisay after democracy was restored, she served until 1998, it was during her time that Talisay blossomed into beauty and greatness, with the Talisay Municipal Hall and Town Plaza cleaned, repainted and beautified, she married Felipe L. Tiu Jr. also a public servant by being a member of the Sangguniang Bayan of Talisay in 1979).
