Meryl Streep in to join ‘Mary Poppins’ cast

-

Yet another famous face has been added to the already star-studded cast of the highly anticipated sequel of “Mary Poppins.”

Meryl Streep is said to be in talks to join Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins and LinManuel Miranda as Jack for “Mary Poppins Returns,” E! News has learned and as Variety magazine first reported.

Should the actress officially sign onto the project, it would mark her return to working with “Into the Woods” director Rob Marshall, producer Marc Platt, and of course, her costar Blunt. But that’s not all, let’s not forget about the fun fact that the two actresses also worked together in “The Devil Wears Prada.”

So what role is 67-year-old Streep currently in discussions for? According to Variety, she’s in talks to play the role of Poppins’ cousin, Topsy.

The character would require the three-time Oscar awardee to sing, similar to her role in “Into the Woods,” “Ricki and the Flash” and “Mama Mia” which doesn’t seem to be a challenge that the star shies away from. “Mary Poppins Returns” will play in movie theaters on Christmas Day in 2018, so fans will have to sit back and wait and see if Streep does in fact officially join what is sure to be a fun-filled family flick!

The seven “Mary Poppins” novels were written by P.L. Travers in 1934. The original Disney film adaption, which bagged five Academy awards and was first shown in August 1964, brought Julie Andrews (who originally played Mary Poppins) career to ultimate stardom.
