Olympians to share tips to Cebuanos
Olympians Hidilyn Diaz and Charly Suarez are expected to share some tips to Cebu fitness buffs regarding their training regimens that made them effective in their respective sporting disciplines.
The Rio Olympics silver medalist for weightlifting Diaz and boxer Suarez are the speakers for ‘The Process of Building Olympians’, a seminar organized by Epic Performance and Fitness slated on September 4 at the City Sports Club-Cebu.
Cebuano conditioning coach and sports science expert Pio Solon of Epic Performance said that the seminar is open not only for athletes and coaches but also for physical education teachers and parents of young athletes.
“Those who will attend will surely gain knowledge about sports science and training programs used by our Olympians,” said Solon in a press conference yesterday at the Salinas restaurant. “I am initiating this as a payback. My goal is to help the country to have a good structure in our sports program by using high level sports technological applications.”
Solon said that aside from Diaz’s achievements, he has chosen the Olympic silver medalist also because of her inspiring story and on how she overcame obstacles throughout her career as a weightlifter.
Even if Suarez failed to bring home a medal from Rio, Solon also believed that the veteran amateur boxer can give inspiration to Cebuanos.
“Looking at them and learning on what they have been through before reaching the Olympics made me realize that we really can do it!” Solon said.
Diaz and Suarez will be joined by Jay Futalan, the strength and conditioning trainer of the Philippine Sports Commission.
For those interested, the seminar fee is pegged at P1,000 and P7,000 for students, inclusive of certificate and meal. The seminar is limited to 300 participants.
