VECO employees conduct outreach for school kids

-

School children from Garing Elementary School in Consolacion were treated to a children's party by the Visayan Electric Company (VECO) Kaibigan Batch 14 and Kaibigan Batch 15 as part of its employee-initiated outreach program last August 6.

“This is our bonding time, giving back to the community,” Judith Ocaña, organizer of the Kaibigan Outreach Program, said. VECO employees are clustered into 'Kaibigan' batches to boost camaraderie.

During the party, 30 school children who were classified under the 'poorest of the poor' enjoyed fun games. VECO also brought the bee mascot of Jollibee all the way to the school which is on an inner mountainous area of Consolacion.

“Lipay kaayo ko kay naay spaghetti, fried chicken ug Jollibee buyog pa gyud (I am so happy because there is spaghetti, fried chicken and Jollibee mascot too),” said Sheila, one of the students.

After the fun games and entertaining performances, the Kaibigans also gave out loot bags containing school supplies. “Karon pa ko kasuway og party. Naa koy nadawat nga bag-ong mga lapis, notebooks ug daghan pa gyud. Nindot pud kaayo igakos ni Jollibee (This is my first time to experience a party. I received new pencils, notebooks and many others. It's so nice to hug Jollibee),” Shiela added. One of her classmates cried from happiness because it was her first time to hug the mascot.

“It is good to bond, and at the same time, help out,” Ocaña said.

Four years since their last batch bonding in 2012, Ocaña said they agreed to have an outreach program instead of the usual outing.

Around 20 employees from their VECO Kaibigan group attended the outreach.

The outreach program was sponsored by VECO's Human Resource Department and the Reputation Enhancement Department.
