Duterte offers P2M bounty for cop protecting drug lords
President Rodrigo Duterte announced that he will give a P2-million bounty for every police officer found protecting drug lords, GMA News reported yesterday.
"I am inclined to place a reward on their head, the members of the PNP [Philippine National Police] who are protecting drug syndicates in this country," he said in a speech made at the National Heroes Day commemoration at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
"I am placing on their head P2 million," Duterte said as he reiterated that there will be no letup in his war against drugs. "I will be harsh as I can ever be. I will not relent. The campaign will be continuous. I will finish this war against corruption, drugs, and crime," he said.
"I am trying my best to restore order (in our country). Most of the criminal acts are on account of the drug trade," said the president.
Philstar.com also reported that Duterte yesterday announced that a total of P4.7 billion will be released as arrears for Armed Forces of the Philippines retirees and widows of World War II veterans.
"It will be released as soon as possible," he said during his speech during the National Heroes Day celebration at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
Duterte added that the joint implementing rules and regulations of the unpaid total administrative disability arrears had been signed by Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno and Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana.
The president noted that the P4.7billion payment of the arrears has been appropriated in the 2016 national budget but was not released by the previous administration of President Benigno Aquino III.
An estimated P3.5 billion is allotted for spouses of deceased war veterans while P1.2 billion is allocated for AFP retirees who are 80 years old and above.
The budget will be distributed to more than 83,000 WWII and post-war veterans, as well as their spouses.
