SHSAteneo, UV start strong
Defending champions SHS-Ateneo de Cebu and the University of the Visayas sent major statements across the field with big wins on opening day over the weekend at the SBP Passerelle Tournament sponsored by Milo at the Magis Eagles Arena of the SHS-Ateneo de Cebu.
The Magis Eagles trounced Abellana National School, 96-57, in a Passerelle division game, while UV scored a 51-15 win over SHSAteneo de Cebu-B in an SBP division game.
The defending Passerelle champions had a slow start, taking a 17-7 lead after the first quarter. They broke the game wide open in the second period building a 45-23 halftime lead to settle the outcome of the game early.
Chico Chan exploded for a game-high 21 points, including three triples. Kendall Limana led Abellana with nine points.
UV also had a slow start in their SBP game, taking a 14-6 lead after one quarter before stepping up and cruising to a 28-9 halftime lead on the way to an easy win. Daniel Padilla led the SBP Lancers with 10 points.
In the other Passerelle game, Don Bosco Technology Center, a team rebuilding its basketball program, defeated the University of Southern Philippines Foundation, 6250. Michael Amista led the Greywolves with 11 points while Kadshein Tagalog added nine. Kin Dayday led USPF with 13 while Jose Ramon Achacoso added 12s.
SHS-Ateneo A made up for its Team B’s loss in their SBP game by defeating a tough Don Bosco side, 6947. Jared Bahay led the SBP Magis Eagles with 15 points. Sid Reroma had a team-high 21 points for Don Bosco.
The SBP Passerelle Tournament is organized by the BEST Center and is backed by Milo. Now on its 31st year, it’s acknowledged as the country’s premier age group tournament with a nationwide scope. Games will resume every weekend at the SHS-Ateneo de Cebu Mango avenue campus.
