Kidlat strikes back in CEPCA monthly tourney

-

Jun Kidlat dominated the group B battle in the August edition of the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA) monthly tournament last Sunday at the second level of Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

Kidlat, owner of a car rental company based in Sangi, Lapu-Lapu City, actually figured in a threeway tie with two-time CEPCA President Engr. Jerry Maratas and Manual Abucay with 4.0 points but got the top spot courtesy of a higher tie-break output.

After winning his first two matches opposite Joe Atillo and Abucay, Kidlat fell prey to Maratas. He bounced back with back-toback victories against police officer Ruel Hortelano and University of San Carlos lady varsity KC Morala to nail the title.

Morala copped the fourth place honors followed by Richard Ouano.

Kidlat, thus, joined early qualifiers Bong San Pascual, Romy Pialan, Percival Fiel, Jerry Maratas, Ruel Hortelano, Mario Bustillo and Richard Ouano into the grand finals also known as the "Battle of Champions" this December in conjunction with CEPCA's annual Christmas gettogether and induction of new members.

In group A, those who already advanced into the club's year-ending tilt are National Master Rogelio Enriquez Jr., Amado Olea, Arnold Cadiz, Rosendo Yamyamin, Peterson Sia, Jojo Muralla and Carlo Maraat. —
