Over 3T colorum trikes worsen Talisay traffic

Talisay City traffic chief Hiram Binatiro said more than 3,000 tricycles are illegally operating in the city.

Binatiro, head of the City of Talisay- Traffic Operations Development Authority (CT-TODA), said that these unregistered tricycles are contributing to the traffic congestion in the city.

He estimated at least 4,000 tricycles operating in the city but only about 1,000 are registered with the city government.

The identification of colorum tricycles operating in the city was among the measures undertaken by Binatiro to address the traffic problem, especially at the vicinity of Tabunok public market.

Binatiro said he already demolished the illegal structures under the Tabunok flyover to allow easy access in the underpass. Binatiro was instructed by Mayor Eduardo Gullas to come up with a systematic solution to the traffic problem.

Contrary to his directive, however, Gullas does not want drastic actions to be taken against the over 3,000 colorum tricycles.

"If you go hammers and tongs apektado ang ilang panginabuhi. We will walk softly kay panginabuhi man gud na sa Talisaynon. Pero dili ko gusto nga drastic, all of the sudden mawala," Gullas said.

Instead, the mayor urged the tricycle operators to comply with the law to avoid apprehension.

Binatiro divulged the problem to the members of the City Council during the regular session last week.
