Trike-car collision kills two

ILOILO CITY — A collision involving a tricycle and a sedan in last Saturday evening claimed the lives of two persons.

Maximo Bucaling, 61, of Barangay Pakiad in Oton, Iloilo, died shortly after his driven tricycle collided with a Honda Civic sedan driven by Demetrio Olivar of Barangay South Fundidor, Molo district, Iloilo City.

His passenger, 22-year-old Justin Zulla of Tuburan village in Janiuay, Iloilo, died early Sunday morning while undergoing treatment at the Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao district, Iloilo City.

According to reports, Bucaling was navigating an intersecti­on at Pakiad village when the car hit his tricycle, which was ferrying Zulla to Mandurriao.

Investigat­ors theorized that the car dragged the tricycle some 15 meters before it stopped. Olivar, who only sustained wounds on his knee, was immediatel­y arrested.

On Saturday, another driver was killed while three others were wounded after their pick-up truck rammed into a roadside tree at Barangay Sto. Domingo in Barotac Viejo town of Iloilo.

The incident killed Rodel Villa and injured his wife Ma. Rhea and backseat passengers Rodrigo Bardosa and Glenn Descautan, all of Luca village, Ajuy town.

Villa could have lost control of his vehicle as it overshot the paved road after he overtook a motorcycle.—
