Non-government organization Humanist Alliance Philippines, International (HAPI) Cebu Chapter conducted its HAPI Trees Project Year 2 on September 11 at Sitio Agbuwakan, Agsungot, Talamban, Cebu City.

HAPI Trees is a tree planting activity initiated by the group in support of the government’s National Greening Program (NGP) which aims to cover 7.1 million hectares of land with trees by 2028.

About 50 volunteers, composed of HAPI leaders and members, students and private employees, participated in this year’s tree planting activity.

Each participant was assigned to plant five to seven Guyabano seedlings in order to reach 315 seedlings for this year.

“This activity is good for Mother Earth. Since we are living here on earth, we must show our love to it by being good steward and do our share of preserving it,” said Jean, a first time participant of the HAPI Trees Project.

DENR CENRO Cebu Extension officer, Danny Jon Garcia, who provided the organization with the seedlings and suggested the location, commended HAPI’s effort in coming up with this activity given the fact that tree planting is a social responsibility.

Julito Magdadaro, a farmer and resident near the site of the activity said, “The tree planting activity is a great help to us. That is why we will take care of the trees and assure that your efforts will not be wasted.” —
