Converters zap All-Stars, Frontiers stun Tech Mighties

The defending champion Convergys Converters swiftly bounced back from a stunning loss to Sykes Pioneers and vented their ire on the Teleperfor­mance All-Stars, 7461, in the 12th CSCC E-League men's basketball tournament last Sunday at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.

Sherwin Emmanuelle Resilla had 18 points, eight rebounds, five blocks and four steals in an all-around hardcourt brilliance, while Aldene Jay Batino punched in 16 points laced with five rebounds, four assists and two blocks as the Converters regained the solo lead in the Elite Classic with a 6-2 winloss record.

Lourenz Limpangog chipped in 14 markers, four rebounds and two assists, and Kenneth Dysam added 12 points, four rebounds, three assists, two blocks and as many steals for the Converters, who struggled for most of the way before finding their rhythm at the endgame where they launched a deadly 25-12 attack to shoot down the All-Stars.

Dean Junber Escalon, Karl Miñoza and Ryan Veloso all finished with 10 points for the All-Stars, who suffered their second loss in six starts.

In the other Elite Classic game, the Accenture Sharks won by default over the SSI Warriors to raise their record to 5-3.

In the Evo League, Ariel Ramonito Edera charted 18 points, pulled down eight rebounds and passed out five assists as the Kyocera Frontiers shocked the previously unbeaten Tech Mahindra Tech Mighties, 60-49, while Gharde Malinao fired 18 points to power the Contact Solutions Flying Lemurs past the Blue Ocean Pirates, 74-59.

Eliot Emerson Uy contribute­d 11 points, four rebounds and two steals for Frontiers, who used a 19-6 bomb in the second period to blow away the Tech Mighties for their fifth win in seven games.

EJ Saavedra had 17 points, 15 rebounds, three blocks, two assists and two steals, while King Luigi Olbes finished with 14 points and seven rebounds but their efforts went for naught as the Tech Mighties saw their seven-game winning streak come to an end.

On the other hand, Reginald Antipala had 11 points, while James Malalay and Roberto Castro Jr. each scored 10 as the Flying Lemurs improved their record to 4-5. The Pirates absorbed their sixth loss in eight starts.—
