Council OK with hike in BHWs’ honorarium

-

The Talisay City Council yesterday approved a resolution increasing the honorarium of the city’s barangay health workers.

In a resolution passed by Councilor Richard Francis Aznar, BHWs’ pay shall be increased from P700 to P1,000 monthly.

Aznar, chairman of the council committee on health and hospital services, said there are currently around 200 accredited BHWs in the city.

During the BHWs Day last July, according to Aznar, Mayor Eduardo Gullas vowed to increase their honorarium.

BHWs play a vital role in rendering health services to the barangays, especially in remote areas, according to Aznar. He described them as frontliners in the delivery of heath care services to Talisaynons.

By increasing BHWs’ pay, the city government recognizes and supports these workers, Aznar said.

“Atong gi-acknowledge ang ilang contribution, one way sa pagtabang kay kanang ilang honorarium,” he said.

The increase would not be implemented this year yet, though, according to Aznar.

For now, he vowed that the council will find ways to look for budget intended for it.

Last week, Gullas submitted to the council his proposed Annual People’s Budget in Talisay in P887 million.

“Hopefully, mapangitaan og budget para matuman by next year, kung maayo ang dagan sa atong panudlanan,” said Aznar. —
