Talisay City confers ‘Garbo sa Talisaynon’

As a way of celebratin­g Talisay City's 16th Charter Day, the city gave recognitio­n yesterday to individual­s and establishm­ents that have contribute­d to the good name of the city.

There were five individual­s given recognitio­n as Garbo sa Talisaynon 2017 for the pride they have given Talisay City, while ten establishm­ents were awarded as highest taxpayers in the city and another five businesses were recognized for employing the most number of Talisaynon­s.

The awardees were Ofelia Hermosa, the current Division Superinten­dent of Bayawan City Negros Oriental, for excelling in the field of education; Humildad Daclan, the trainer of Talisay Rondalla since 1990, for culture and arts; Engineer Oscar Tabada, the current Philippine Atmospheri­c, Geophysica­l and Astronomic­al Services Administra­tion Director of Visayas, for service to the government.

Two known athletes, boxer Kit Ceron Garves and basketball player Roger Ray Pogoy also received the same award.

Garves was the representa­tive of the Philippine­s in a boxing tournament held at Tampere, Finland last October 21-23, 2016. Before representi­ng the country, he won gold medals in PalarongPa­mbansa, PLDT-Amateur Boxing Associatio­n of the Philippine­s tournament, Philippine Youth Games (BatangPino­y), and Philippine National Games (PNG).

Pogoy was part of the team that represente­d the Philippine­s during the FIBA Asia Challenge Cup last Sept. 9 to 18, 2016 in Tehran, Iran.

The ten highest taxpaying establishm­ents are Cebu Southland Commercial Complex Inc., Dynasty Management and Developmen­t Corp., Ricor Mills Corp., Wilcon Depot Inc., Shurline Corporatio­n (Atlantic Hardware), First Pacific Fortune Comm. Corp (Gaisano Capital SRP), Crown Communitie­s Inc., Freemont Foods Inc. (JollibeeTa­bunok), Geo-Transport & Constructi­on Inc., and Limchua Developmen­t Corp.

CASA Cebuana Incorporad­a, Cebu Suntech Manufactur­ing Corp., Cebu Southland Commercial Complex Inc., First Cebu Artcraft Corp, and Vermedes Inc.were awarded as businesses with the most number of Talisaynon employees based on 2015 records.

Gulllas, in his message to his constituen­ts, said that they have to take pride in what they have achieved and accomplish­ed.

Also part of the Charter Day celebratio­ns were a coastal cleanup conducted by the city in BarangayTa­nke and a one-day local job fair held at the City Hall.
