Group initiates livelihood project for Bonbon women
Change has come in barangay Bonbon, a mountain barangay in Cebu City.
For some women residents in this barangay, it's an opportunity to start a simple new livelihood, the making of rags.
The so-called Kilusang Pagbabago, the nationwide people's organization that backs the administration of President Duterte, extended help to the women's group in this barangay, the Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina (Kalipi).
Yesterday, KP launched a community enterprise development program called "May Kwarta sa Retaso Project" to help women start a rag making business.
PILOT PROJECT
KP donated at least three sewing machines and sacks of remnants of fabrics or locally known as "retaso".
Flor Maternal, president of Kalipi, said their organization currently has around 100 members.
Michelle Rebonza, a member of Kalipi, said that KP has already found them a market for their rags, buyers from Talisay City.
As they are still starting out, the lady said they hoped they could produce more rags eventually.
She said their buyers would buy the rags at P50 for 100 pieces.
The income would go to the funds of the women's group and these will be distributed to members at the end of the year.
The goal of the project is to use the abilities of these women as they are already provided with the machines and the needed materials.
Maternal said that farming, particularly producing flowers, is the main livelihood of the residents in this barangay.
So this livelihood project, she said, is an opportunity for the women's group to have another income.
Aside from rags, she said they may also produce curtains and pillows' clothes in the future.
"Nanghinaot mi nga mahimo na namo. Kay naa na gud mi machines. Ang amo na lang ang paggamit sa among labor," the Kalipi leader said.
KP also plans to bring the project in other mountain barangays in Cebu City such as Buot Taop, Tabunan, Sinsin, and Sudlon Dos.
Kilusang Pagbabago aims to consolidate all forces supporting Duterte into an organized mass movement.
Cabinet Secretary Leoncio Evasco Jr. had said the KP serves as a citizens’ partner of the present administration in its campaign for real change particularly on its five focus programs war against illegal drugs, crimes and corruption; intensifying social services; raising quality of life and living standards; peace and unity; and federalism.
The group, being the administration's partner, will serve as a watchdog against crimes, drugs and corruption through monitoring; educator of Duterte’s platform for change, peace and federalism; and defender of the republic during crisis and calamities (natural and man-made), including threats of national destabilization.
