Cebuano designs at Miss U event
AT MISS U EVENT
Designs by Cebu’s top couturiers took center stage during last week’s Miss Universe ancillary activities in Cebu. It was such an impressive showcase of Cebuano creative talent.
The Cebuano fashion creations took to the stage On the same day and venue as the noontime Miss Universe Swimwear Presentation at JPark Island Resort & Waterpark in Mactan on January 17. Samplings of the in-season collections of 21 Cebuano designers were the mainliners of an evening gala fashion presentation, which was attended by the candidates of this year’s Miss Universe pageant, VIP guests and members of the media.
The featured fineries were indicative of Cebu designers’ design penchants and predilections – from Dexter Alazas’ contemporary treatment of the traditional “hablon” fabric to Cary Santiago’s ambidextrous utilization of pastels in giving seductive undertones to sleek lines.
The “less means more” ideal was apparent in the presented fineries of Jun Escario, Dino Lloren, Oj Hoffer, Yvonne Quisumbing and Philipp Tampus, just as a well-intoned efficacy of prints, patterns and appliques define the creations of Mia Arcenas, Arcy Gayatin, Mel Maria, Ditas Rodriguez and Harley Ruedas.
All in all, the evening event reinforced Cebu’s informal title as the “design capital of the country.”
