The Cebu City government will be hiring WKH VHUYLFHV RI D SULYDWH ¿UP to process the septic waste of the City Jail.
Francisco “Bimbo” Fernandez, executive assistant to the mayor, said the septic waste problem affecting the residents of Barangay Kalunasan may have been caused by the withdrawal of the services of Mactan Rock Industries Incorporated to treat the waste water from the jail.
Fernandez said the company used to treat the septic waste of the city jail but stopped after the city government failed to pay its obligation.

He said the city government owes a total of P700,000 to the service provider. Fernandez said KH KDV \HW WR ¿QG RXW WKH reason why the previous administration failed to settle the obligation.
As of yesterday, Fernandez said the septic tanks of the city jail have been declogged.
“We are reviving our contract with Mactan Rock bitaw nga duna nay system. They’re supposed to submit a proposal on how nga maoverhaul to’ng old na system. But more important than that, we are asking them how much it will cost aron ma overhaul to’ng equipment whether to continue to operate and manage it,” he said.
Fernandez said the city government will also discuss the problem with WKH &DSLWRO RI¿FLDOV IRU WKH Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center.
Last month, residents of Barangay Kalunasan were complaining of foul smell from the creek allegedly FDXVHG E\ WKH RYHUÀRZLQJ septic tanks of the jail facilities in the barangay.
Fernandez said the city government will work closely with the barangay RI¿FLDOV WR DGGUHVV WKH concern of the residents.
He said the barangay RI¿FLDOV DUH DOVR SODQQLQJ to put up canals and septic tanks to address the problem.
