Luigi turns down proposal to build animal crematoriu­m

Mandaue City Mayor Gabriel Luigi Quisumbing s not keen on the proposal to construct an incinerato­r r crematoriu­m to dispose of dead animals to prevent eople from throwing them at the Umapad dumpsite.

"I would prefer crematoriu­m facility for human ather than animals," Quisumbing said.

The mayor was reacting to a resolution passed by the &LW\ &RXQFLO FDOOLQJ RQ WKH &LW\ +HDOWK 2I¿FH DQG WKH &LW\ (QJLQHHUV 2I¿FH WR FRQGXFW D VWXG\ RQ WKH YLDELOLW\ f building and operating a city-owned incinerato­r or rematorium.

Quisumbing said he is open to the idea of building rematorium to be used not for animals but solely for the eople, especially for the indigent families.

"Our cemetery is already overcrowde­d. It's really sad ecause of the lack of space," the mayor said as he agreed o the proposal of Councilor Nilo Seno that crematoriu­m s necessary since there is now a shortage of burial lots nd sepulchers in public cemetery.

Seno, in his resolution, said the city has been plague y the problem on how to dispose of animal carcasses nd seized hot meats.

"In so far as animal carcasses, hot and illegal meat nd the like it is unsafe and unhygienic to dispose of hem in our sanitary landfill. There is a need to create ur own incinerato­r and crematoriu­m in order to address his existing problem," Seno said.
