The Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office did not recommend bail against Felipa Roldan for the death of her husband, Gerardo, last September 7, 2016.

Prosecutor II Leah Cruz, in her resolution, said Felipa can be held for trial for the crime of parricide after she was identified by her son as the one who shot the victim.

“Based on the uncontroverted evidence, it appears that there is reasonable ground to believe that respondent may be held liable for the offense,” the resolution read.

Gerafe Roldan, a resident of Sitio Kalumbuyan, Barangay Tisa, Cebu City, alleged that on September 7, 2016 at 2:45 p.m. while she was working as a teacher at IGC Provision Learning Center, she received a call from her brother, Japyee, that their father, Gerardo, was allegedly shot by their mother.

Felipa allegedly pulled out a handgun from her bag and aimed at Gerardo, who was about to leave their house after an argument.

Japyee, who saw the incident, shouted “don’t, Ma,” but Felipa allegedly did not budge and pulled the trigger, hitting Gerardo’s left arm.

Gerardo reportedly managed to run away for a few meters and asked for help, but fell unconscious. He was brought to Cebu City Medical Center but later died.

Cruz sent a subpoena to Felipa on October 11, 2016 to file her counter-affidavit and other controverting evidence but failed.

Thus, Cruz resolved the complaint based on the evidence of the complainant, Gerafe.

Gerafe alleged prior to the incidents her parents were having arguments over personal matters. —
