PSC bares 5-year plan to hone elite athletes
The Philippine Sports Commission on Thursday launched its five-year plan focused on strengthening its grassroots development program with an eye of producing world class athletes.
With the Philippine Sports Institute already in place, PSC chairman William "Butch" Ramirez and the board shifts its focus to widening the scope of the Philippine National Games, the Batang Pinoy and eventually its Sports for Peace programs while strengthening their ties with local government units and sports stakeholders.
"We will be focusing on athletic development on LGUs, sustaining our plan to put up a real grassroots sports program and define main strategy and concrete targets and give more budget to athletes and coaches who will products of these programs for the Southeast Asian,Asian and Olympic Games," said Ramirez in a presser at the St. Benilde Hotel.
Ramirez, who was accompanied by commissioners Ramon Fernandez, Charles Maxie, Tony Agustin and Celia Kiram and executive director Karlo Abarcar, said they have already set dates for the Philippine National Games, Batang Pinoy and Sports for Peace Games in Mindanao this year to get things going.
The government sports-funding agency has also given P10 million to host Antique to help the Palarong Pambansa set April 23-30 be a success.
The PNG is scheduled from December 39 in Cebu City while the Batang Pinoy will have three legs starting in Mindanao in Oroquieta from July 9-15, Visayas in Dumaguete from September 10-16 and Luzon in Vigan from October 22-28 before culminating with the National Finals next year. —
