Gullas: Hiring of security guards will be above board
Talisay City Mayor Eduardo Gullas is confident that the city’s Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) will be able to hire a security agency within this year without any irregularities.
The Talisay City government will hire at least 60 security guards to secure the city’s properties, particularly the City Hall.
However, the previous administration’s hiring of a security agency became controversial after the city entered a contract with Black Pearl Security Agency (BSA) without going through the proper process.
A constituent from the city filed a complaint before the Office of the Ombudsman and accused former mayor Johnny V Delos Reyes and his son, City Administrator John Yre, and other three individuals for entering the said contract without going through competitive bidding.
Gullas stressed that he reminded the BAC, which is responsible for the hiring of a certain agency, to do the right thing in line with the law.
“I trust the BAC na let’s do the things that we should do para dili ta mabulilyaso,” Gullas said.
He added that he also wants to secure other cityowned properties like the slaughterhouse and the Lagtang Public Market.
For his part, BAC Chairman Edgar Mabunay assured that everything would be executed legally.
Earlier, he said that the city allocated at least P10M for the purpose.
The proposed contract will last for seven months.
He added that they are still expecting more agencies that are willing to buy the bidding document until the final bidding date on May 9.
