Thirteen Mandaue brgys to get new vehicles
Thirteen barangays in Mandaue City are expected to receive motor vehicles from the city government.
The city already purchased the vehicles for P12.4 million after securing authority from the Department of Interior and Local Government.
The recipient barangays could use the vehicles during emergencies and for other purposes, said Councilor Nenita Ceniza-Layese, chairperson of the City Council committee on appropriations, budget and finance.
She identified the recipient barangays as Maguikay, Guizo, Cambaro, Alang-Alang, Basak, Tingub, Tabok, Pakna-an, Pagsabungan, Maguikay, Casuntingan and Centro.
Under the rules, a city mayor should submit to the DILG a letter-request stating the type of vehicles to be purchased, number and specification of motor vehicles, the purpose and deployment for which such vehicles will be used, certification of availability of funds by the City Accountant, as well as Sangguniang Panlungsod ordinance or resolution approving the purchase, among others.
These were all complied with, said Layese.
Last year, the city government appropriated P12 million for the purchase of 14 brand-new vehicles for the city officials.
All 10 councilors, the vice mayor, and the city administrator received one vehicle while the remaining two vehicles have yet to be given to other departments.
According to the DILG memorandum circular 201-47 dated June 3, 2013, no government funds shall be utilized for the purchase of motor vehicles, except when it will used for emergency purposes or calamity-related activities, those which are required by the military and police or other law enforcement agencies to maintain peace and order, those which are necessary in the interest of public service and those which are directly necessary in the business operations or government transactions of front-line agencies.
