SM malls join Brigada Eskwela
As part of their employee volunteerism, SM City Cebu and SM Seaside City Cebu went out of their daily tasks to join this year’s Brigada Eskwela being implemented nationwide.
Brigada Eskwela is a nationwide volunteer effort of parents, students, teachers, community members and other organizations who give out their time and resources to cleanup, beautify and do minor repairs in the school buildings before the onset of another school year.
Over the years, the Brigada which originated from the National Schools Maintenance Week launched in 2003 has become one of DepEd’s major initiatives in enjoining local communities to respond to the needs of public schools and be part of a nationwide effort towards improving Philippine basic education.
The SM Cares volunteerism program aims to provide a venue for employees to contribute in making life a little better for the people in the community.
SM City Cebu adopted their neighboring school, Mabolo Elementary School, while SM Seaside City Cebu mall employees launched the Brigada Eskwela in Mambaling National High School.
The employees engaged in repairing facilities, cleaning, and painting of classrooms.
School administrators appreciate the efforts of SM volunteers in giving a hand to make the public schools ready for the school opening.
