DSWD holds info drive on programs, services
The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas vowed to be more visible in rural communities to raise public awareness on its programs and services.
The agency is conducting a region-wide caravan, an annual event, to promote and inform the public about DSWD's current programs and services, said DSWD-7 information officer Kerwin Macopia.
The programs include Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan – Comprehensive Integrated Delivery of Social Service (KALAHICIDSS), Expanded Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (EAICS), Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), and the Modified Conditional Cash Transfer (MCCT), among others.
“The caravan also provides a venue where the public can inquire on how to avail of DSWD services,” he told The FREEMAN.
The officials of DSWD-7 went yesterday to Barangays Agujo and Pajo in Daanbantayan town, one of the Yolanda-hit areas in northern Cebu.
Also, they are set to visit today the island barangay of Logon in Daanbantayan. For southern Cebu, the agency is yet to finalize the schedule.
The caravan began last March in the provinces of Bohol and Siquijor.
In Bohol, the DSWD7 personnel reached areas as far as the two mountain barangays in the towns of Guindulman and Duero, as well as communities of indigenous people.
They also went to the municipality of Ubay and visited the two campuses of Bohol Island State University (BISU) in the towns of Candijay and Bilar. Among the audience are student-grantees of the Expanded Student Grant inAide Program for Poverty Allevation (ESGP-PA).
In Siquijor, on the other hand, the agency held an information caravan in Lazi town and some other areas.
Macopia said they have chosen areas with highest trend of poor households as identified by the agency's “Listahan” for this year's information caravan.
Listahan, formerly known as National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR), is an information management system identifying who and where the poor families are in the country.
