The suspect was identified as Lyndel Ribias Nulia, a resident of Paypay, Daanbantayan , Cebu, and the son of Barangay Councilor Danny Nulia.

Police Officer 3 Orland Condes of the Daanbantayan Police Station said that they received a call around 9 p.m. last Thursday that Lyndel, believed to be under the influence of liquor and armed with a sharp pointed bolo, was causing public disturbance in Barangay Paypay.

“Naay nanawag namo informing us nga naa daw nag-amok sa ila barangay. Nanghasi daw kini sa ilang barangay na nakaalarma sa mga tawo ato nga lugara. Amo nahibalan nga anak diay kini sa konsehal,” Condes said.

Condes, along with PO3 Leomar Ricaplaza, immediately responded and went to the area where the suspect was.

When Lyndel noticed the presence of policemen, without any hesitation he assaulted the responding PNP personnel with a bolo and hacked Ricaplaza, who, at that time, managed to park the patrol car.

He, however, was able to elude the attack. The bolo hit the left front portion of the patrol car.

When Ricaplaza and Condes disembarked from the patrol car to arrest the suspect, Lyndel, reportedly with intent to kill, attacked and hacked Condes.

Condes managed to avoid the attack, but he fell to the ground. The suspect allegedly continued to attack him with his bolo, prompting the policeman to shoot Lyndel on his left arm to neutralize him.

Instead of calming down, Lyndel purportedly continued to assault Condes that prompted the latter to shoot the suspect, hitting him in his body. Lyndel was brought to the hospital but was declared dead by the medico-legal officer.
