- PAUL JUN E. ROSAROSO

Everything is already in place for the 10th edition of the annual Emil’s Fresh Chicken Cup intercommercial basketball tournament set to unwrap on July 29 at the Minglanilla Sports Complex.

During the event's final organizational meeting presided over by league organizer Mickey Oberes at the Cebu Grand Convention Center yesterday, it was agreed upon by all concerned parties that each team shall be composed of 20 players but only 15 are allowed to player per game.

Also, no import or foreign players are allowed to play.

"It's already our 10th edition and I'm proud to say that our tournament is getting bigger and better each year," said Oberes.

A total of six teams will see action in the week-long tilt that is among the highlights of the annual fiesta celebration of Barangay Linao-Lipata in honor of its beloved patron Sr. San Roque.

The contenders are divided into two groups but they will still play each other in a single round-robin format during the elimination.

Two-time defending champion Team Samsam Gullas, Riss Lending/Eagles Express and San Remigio Properties make up Bracket A while Aspa Scaffoldings, Fighter Winer Fighter 50 and SG-ARQ Builders are in Division B.

The top two qualifiers in each bracket will clash in the crossover semifinals. The winners will then fight it out for the title in a winner-takeall affair and the losers battle for third place.

The champion will take home P110,000 while the second and third placers will pocket P50,000 and P30,000, respectively. There will also be special awards for the MVP and Mythical Five.—
