Mactan Rock expands, opens facility in Aparri
Cebu-based bulk water supplier Mactan Rock Industries, Inc. has expanded its operation in Luzon with the opening of its water facility in Aparri, Cagayan province.
Aparri is a first class municipality that sits at the mouth of the Cagayan River, the country's longest river. Although the town is abundant in water, residents still experience a shortage of potable water because most of its water is brackish due to its proximity to the sea, and water from the river is murky.
The water problem has been hounding the town for many years now. To prove that it is living up to its obligation of providing the residents with basic services such as water, the LGU under Mayor Shalimar Tumaru has coordinated with the Aparri Water District to come out with a solution.
The Aparri Water District then set out to find a reliable bulk water supplier that could augment the town's water supply. Mactan Rock bid for the project and won for offering the lowest rate. It signed a 10-year contract with the water district and works on the facility commenced.
The 60-million water facility was inaugurated on July 21. It utilizes excess water from the National Irrigation Administration canals using a surface water clarifier. The facility can produce 5,000 to 7,500 cubic meters of water per day. This ensure that residents in the northern coastal town will have continued supply of safe and potable water.
