The "Kilo of Kindness" campaign

-

In line with the global campaign, which marks the UN International Day of Charity on September 5 guests and residents of Mövenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu are called on to donate food, clothing and educational supplies to help local families in need as the hotel launches the 2017 ‘Kilo of Kindness’ charity drive.

Donated items will be distributed to disadvantaged local communities by hotel’s charity partner.

Big-hearted guests and visitors are invited to drop off at least one kilo of food, clothing and educational supplies in the hotel lobby during the twoweek campaign September 1-15. These supplies will then be donated to Cordova Alternative Resource for Education Center (CARE Center), a foundation which supports out-of-school children by educating them to become good citizens of the society.

Target beneficiaries of the program are the out-ofschool children in Cordova ages 7-12 years old who belong to financiallychallenged families and are illiterate without the necessary documents or preliminary training to qualify for acceptance in public schools.

Last year, 926 kilos of supplies were donated to 12 participating hotels – a figure Mövenpick hopes to surpass with this year’s expanded campaign. While each guest is encouraged to donate a ‘Kilo of Kindness’, all contributions will be gratefully received.

Educational supplies in demand include books, notebooks and stationery such as pens, pencils, rulers, erasers, sharpeners, glue and scissors. Clothing donations will be well received too, as well as canned and dried (unperishable) foods such as rice, beans, oats, pasta, cereals, flour and powdered milk.

The ‘Kilo of Kindness’ campaign is part of ‘Shine’, Mövenpick’s global corporate social responsibility program. Shine’s initiatives are grouped around three pillars — Environment, Employer and Social Sustainability — with Education the common focus.
