Tepora knock out opponent

- — Lemuel P. Maglinte

Omega Boxing Gym rising star Jhack ‘El Capitan’Tepora was successful in his first foray outside the country as he scored a resounding second round knockout of South African Lusanda Komanisi to claim the WBO Intercontinental featherweight title yesterday at the Orient Theatre in East London, South Africa.

The feat readily positions him among the country’s brightest world title hopefuls.

The 24-year-old Tepora landed a picture perfect right hook on Komanisi’s jaw in the dying seconds of the second round, sending the South African crashing in the canvass. Komanisi who was momentarily separated from his senses wasn’t able to answer the referee’s count, hence the stoppage.

"A very deserving win for Jhack," said Omega Pro Sports International President Pio Paulo Castillo. "We don’t know yet what’s next for him. We want to sit down with Jhack and talk about his next direction. I would really like Jhack to fight for the world title."

Tepora who previously held the WBO Asia-Pacific Youth and WBO Oriental super bantamweight titles, raised his record to 21-0, spiked with 16 knockouts, while Komanisi dropped to 21-4, 18KOs.

Tepora ended Komanisi’s nine-fight winning streak including his knockout victory over Cebuano Roli Gasca last year for the IBO featherweight belt.
