Mayor Gomez wins gold medal

ORMOC CITY — Mayor Richard Gomez, of host Ormoc City, wins a gold medal in the men's masters category in yesterday's qualifying round of the 2nd leg of the Philippine Archery Cup, a three-day qualifying event for the Asian and Olympic Games, which will be concluded today.

In last night's awarding ceremony, hele at the Ormoc Museum during the welcome dinner, the other winners (men's masters category) were Rodolfo Santiago for silver, and Jose Santiago for bronze.

In the men's seniors category, the winners were Earl Yap (gold), Paul Marton dela Cruz (silver), and Joseph Bague (bronze).

The other gold medal winners were: Johan Olano (cadetcompo­und men); for Recurvewom­en/girls---Nicole Tagle (senior), Shanaya Dangla (junior), Chrisha Mae Merto (cadet), Joie Carla Dumadag (cub), Naina Dominique Tagle (bowman), and Kharlyle Angel Pinzon (yeoman).

In the Recurve-men/boys category, the gold winners were: Florante Matan (senior), Carson Francis Hastie (junior), Steve de Sosa (barebow), Carson Francis Hastie (cadet), and Inigo Ongcuangco (cub).

Gomez said hosting the Archery Cup will not only put Ormoc City on the map and help boost tourism, but it will also help the locals appreciate the game.

The local archers also will get world-class equipment as the players will be leaving some of their sporting gear in the city for the local athletes to use.
