Nangka teams punch semis tickets in Alegado Cup

Teams from Nangka booted out separate foes to march into the semifinal round of the 7th Mayor Teresa 'Nene' P. Alegado Fiesta Basketball Cup in Consolacio­n.

Romar Ponce exploded for a tournament-high 43 points as Nangka ousted Cansaga, 103-82, to make it to the round of four in the Inter-Barangay Seniors Category A.

Paul Iverson Collango chipped in 24 markers for Nangka, which used a deadly offensive attack in the final half to dismantle Cansaga.

Nangka led by only seven at halftime, 52-45, but outscored Cansaga in the third, 34-27, then closed the match with a 17-10 run for the 21-point rout.

Nangka still faces a tall order though as they take on the twice-to-beat Poblacion Oriental for a finals berth in their group.

In the SK Juniors Category A, Nangka also advanced after prevailing in a nip and tuck battle against Tayud, 72-69.

Winston Pepito finished with 22 points, while Neil Alquisola and Fritz Ropal tallied a total of 25 points across their names for Nangka, which will go up against Pitogo in the semis.

In the Midget Category A, Lamac kept it Final 4 hopes alive after escaping past Pitogo, 89-85. John Miguel Maglasang topscored for Lamac with 23 points followed by Kin Dayday with 18 and Christian Mapiscay with 13 points. —
