Honeylet to witness signing of PNP drug rehab program deal
MANILA — The president’s commonlaw wife Cielito “Honeylet” Avanceña is set to be the guest of honor at the launch of the Philippine National Police’s own drug rehabilitation program.
Yesterday, The PNP will launch its "Life After Tokhang" or LIFT, a community-based recovery and wellness program aimed to help 1.3 million people who surrendered to authorities after ending up on drug lists.
"As guest of honor, Ms. Avanceña will witness the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement between the PNP and the NGO Life Rispondé Foundation Corporation to set into motion the PNP LIFT Program for drug users," the PNP said in a statement.
The PNP said it has consulted nonstock and non-profit foundation Life Rispondé Foundation Corporation for partnership in the LIFT program for it has earlier conducted community-based rehabilitation and outpatient recovery programs for drug users in northern provinces, among others.
The PNP Directorate for Police Community Relations earlier cited that LIFT program complements the drug rehabilitation program of the Department of Health. It added that the police have a “moral responsibility to assist and facilitate complete recovery of drug offenders.”
Earlier the Dangerous Drugs Boards cautioned the PNP against implementing its own treatment and rehabilitation program because each agency should contribute to the government’s anti-illegal drugs campaign with its own expertise and competencies.
