65 facets of the extraordinary

A private label fashion presentation, titled “65 Facets of Extraordinary,” took place in the city on September 23. Held at the 2nd level of Rustan’s Ayala Center Cebu, it was part of the many highlights of the 65th anniversary celebration of Rustan’s.

The “Blue Sapphire” capsule collections by Rustan’s exclusive labels U by Ricardo Preto, Ricardo Preto Rustan’s Exclusive, Jill by Jojie Lloren, Lady Rustan and Criselda Lontok took center stage on the occasion. Also highlighted were the latest collections of store’s house labels Kiddos, Rustan’s Jr. and Rustanette.

Sharply styled crop tops and ankle-cinched palazzo pants were among the head-turning designs on the runway, with each drawn on minimalist elements that have become indicative of contemporary fashion direction.

The ensembles and accessories presented all bore allusions to the street fashion ethos of the 90s – color palettes well balanced with elemental cuts and lines.

The event also celebrated a number of “firsts” by Rustan’s, which include being the country’s pioneer in having a bridal and gift registry system, the first in the Philippines to offer gift wrapping services and the first to combine the department and grocery store retail concept (in Rustan’s Superstore Cubao in 1970).

Rustan’s decades-spanning history began in 1952, when founders Bienvenido Tantoco Sr. and Gliceria Rusita Tantoco thought of opening a one-stop-shop for all-things-luxurious.

The couple initially brought items from overseas trips and displayed them in their living room for guests and visitors to see. Then the first Rustan’s opened along San Marcelino Street in old Manila. The first Rustan’s to open outside of Metro Manila was in Cebu City in 1981.
