Ronda’s most wanted yields

- Clydyl L. Avila/FPL — Mae

An alleged gun-for-hire and most wanted person in the Municipality of Ronda surrendered yesterday to the town mayor.

Jerreck Torres, 35, resident of Sitio Campo, Barangay Ilaya, has a warrant of arrest for murder issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Leopoldo Cañete in Barili last October 1.

Torres, also known as A-Ay, is also considered person of interest in several murder and homicide cases.

Cebu Provincial Police Office Director Senior Superintendent Edgar Alan Okubo said Torres is also number six on the list of most wanted persons in Central Visayas. He is said to be a hitman of several politicians.

Torres, however, denied the allegations against him. He was charged with murder for killing his cousin in December last year.

Torres surrendered to Vice Mayor Jonnah John Ungab after learning that the police were after him. In fact, he was subject of police operation last October 16 but he was not in his residence when operatives of the Provincial Intelligence Branch went to serve his arrest warrant.

Police Superintendent Joie PacitoYape, acting chief of Ronda Police Station, said Torres was also among those who surrendered an unlicensed gun during the “Oplan Paglalansag” in Ronda last Month.

He did not have a warrant of arrest then, prompting the police to release him.

But, he turned over a 30 caliber machine gun and a .45 caliber pistol to the police.

Mayor Mariano Blanco III, Vice Mayor Jonah John Ungab, barangay captains, councilors, and other government officials also turned over their unlicensed firearms during the occasion.

Ronda, according to Yape, was previously tagged as a “trouble spot” especially during election due to several incidents of family feuds involving Torres.

Torres is temporarily detained at CPPO stockade pending the issuance of commitment order from the court for him to be transferred to the proper jail facility.
