USC starts strong in City Olympics

The University of San Carlos took the early lead in the first day of action of the 27th Cebu City Olympics thanks to its taekwondo team yesterday at the Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

USC hauled five gold medals in the poomsae event through the efforts of Lee Robiegayle Navales, Aidaine Krishia Laxa, Dennis Arguero and Cheyena Dela Fuente.

Defending champion University of Cebu Webmasters managed to claim four gold, two silver and one bronze.Christine Villasor, Sal Luis Estrada, Sophia Alexandra Labra and Clint Morales delivered for UC.

Unit 3 and 6 currently stands at third with one gold and one silver apiece. University of San JoseRecole­tos got two bronze medals as the Abellana National School secured a silver and a bronze.

Defending champion Unit 5, which is composed of UC, USC and City Central, is leading the elementary division standing with three golds and a silver medal. Two of its gold medals came from poomsae plus one in kyorugi.

Unit 7 is at second spot with two gold, one silver and a bronze, while Unit 3 settled for third with two golds and a bronze. Unit 1 and 4 for their part, got two golds apiece courtesy of wrestling.

In the elementary action of karatedo, Unit 1 nabbed four gold, four silver and six bronze medals in kata.

Unit 1 got their first four golds courtesy of Jisha Zyra Azur, Ma Fe Serdoncill­o, Gin Carlo Polestico and Gift Lloyd Canencias.

Unit 8 nabbed two golds through the efforts of Joshua Narboada and sister Janine.
